      Hey Peoples 🙂

Nomad United Gaming (NUG) has decided to expand upon our DayZ community experience and has created our Whitelisted Private Roleplaying server, we are working hard to make sure that our NUG community can have the best possible experience while playing DayZ! We have put together the following to explain the rules and meanings behind them, for our roleplay server. Please read them carefully! These rules have been put together based on the direction and inspiration of the NUG community, We have listened to our community and have also drawn inspiration from other roleplaying communities to be able to provide our community with the best game play possible.

So below you will find the rules and meanings for each of the following:

      • Teamspeak Rules
      • Roleplaying
      • Killing on sight aka KOS
      • New Life Rule
      • Power- and meta- gaming
      • Combat logging or ghosting
      • Groups and group conflicts

      Teamspeak RULES!:

      • Be respectful to ALL Nomad Admin’s/Mod’s/Members!
      • Pick your game style for the day and stay with it! Switching throughout the day will not be tolerated! This is not fair on other players and creates confusion.
      • Once you have picked your game style for the day, you are not welcome in the other game style channels! eg. Hero’s can not go into the Bandit channels to talk to them! If you want to talk to another player, make use of the neutral squad channels in the DayZ SA section of TS, or your own Private channel if you have one, or talk via text chat/steam!
      • If you have an issue with another player, please go up to the DayZ Private Hive Help Area, or message an Admin to help you! Do not start fights in channel or take it upon yourself to do an Admins job! This only causes trouble and will not be tolerated!
      • DO NOT ASK ANYONE for their location! Or give out anyone’s location! No matter whether they are Nomad, Hero or Bandit! Unless you are working with them as a team you have no right to ask anyone where they are or what they are doing!
      • Do NOT sit in the same TS channel with someone you are wanting to kill, or deliberately kill someone in your TS channel! If you are wanting to kill someone, stay out of their channel! If you do sit in the same channel with people you plan on killing, you will be classified as a ‘Dog’ and will be looked down upon and will most likely find yourself in getting kicked from TS. If you are in one of our Nomad Squad Ranking Systems, you may find yourself demoted!
      • There is to be NO Animosity towards other players and their choice of game play style, if someone chooses to be a Hero one day and a Bandit the next, that is ok! No one has the right to harass anyone or give them a hard time, based on their chosen style of game play! Choosing to play a Bandit/Hero/Nomad is a right everyone is entitled to choose and it does not mean that they are no longer your friend!
      • The Hero’s v’s Bandit theme in NO WAY reflects on the Nomad Squad System! As long as you up hold your Nomad Squad Rules, your Squad ranking will not be affected by your choice of game style while running in the Nomad Whitelisted server! eg. if you would like to play as a Bandit, make sure you are in the Bandit channels and following the Bandit guidelines! This means that when you are not in the Bandit channel, you are to live up to your Nomad Rank rules! or risk being demoted!
      • If you are not a member of the Nomad Squad Ranking System and would like to be, please follow this link to find out more information 🙂

Bellow you will find the Nomad Guidelines for each fraction, Please keep in mind that these are just guidelines! We do expect that you do your best to try and up hold these guidelines, so we can keep our community a happy and friendly place to be 🙂 People who are found ignoring these guidelines or causing trouble on a regular basis WILL BE DEALT with!

      Roleplaying

      What is Roleplaying?

Roleplay is assuming the role of a character and writing, acting, or playing as that character would. You are required to role play your character at all times. Role play must be you primary goal while playing. Things like focusing on PvP, loot or other aspects of DayZ game play while disregarding RP will be regarded as bad RP.

Your character must fit in with one of our different roleplay factions, and it’s back story must fit well within the current situation in Chernarus. Your character must use the same name as you have on Teamspeak, if you change your in-game name, then please put it in Teamspeak in brackets next to your Teamspeak name. Your character must behave realistically and appropriately to the different situations you participate in. Your character may not use abusive backgrounds like being a murderer, psychopath, cannibal and/or similar in order to circumvent the rules, e.g. ‘I’m a Bandit, therfore KOSing is ok’.

You are not allowed to ignore role play attempts of other players. If you want to go AFK, please log out to the DayZ in-game lobby or completely exit the game. If you chose to alt-tab out of game for a short space of time (1-2min) you are to place your character up against a wall/tree and be facing the wall/tree, until you return. No one is to kill or take hostage of a player who is facing a wall/tree, if you really want this character (eg you are a hero and he/she is wanted for murder) you must sit an wait for them to return, or leave and stay in the area, waiting for them to return.

In order to initiate hostile actions against other players you MUST have a valid reason, like an actual need for specific equipment from the victim that he is carrying or previous hostilities between you and the victim that would warrant the hostility. Initiating any hostile actions without any of the above met will be considered bad RP. When you are initiating any form of hostile action, you are to make sure it meets with your characters story line, eg. a Hero will go to his hero squad and together they will seek justice, in the name of all that is good! A hero would not go on a murderous rampage and then expect to be welcomed back by his/hers fellow hero’s.

No Value For Life (NVFL) is disregarding your characters well being in order to attempt an action with little chance of success and which conflicts with the natural survival instincts. Using NVFL in game is strictly prohibited. If your character is on the verge of starving to death and you chose to go and voluntarily put your character in a hostile situation, do not complain when you die in one punch!

Always prioritize role play, Do not abuse the rules if they grant you an your character unreasonable or unfair advantage over other players. If you have a possibility to use RP to resolve a situation without pulling the trigger – do it! Excessive use of force, disregarding other options that would provide a situation to gain KoS rights, will be classified as bad RP and breaking of the rules!

      Examples and extras

      • Being irresponsibly hostile by killing other players when the situation does not require you to do so or if your character or your friends are not under direct threat of getting harmed can be considered KoS and not playing by the rules.
      • If you find yourself having been caught by another player/s and they have their weapons drawn does not mean that they are going to be hostile! They too are going to be just as wary of you as you are of them, this does not mean, you should not be concerned about what is going to happen next, but KOSing and claiming it is ok because they had their weapons drawn, will be classified as breaking the rules and bad roleplay.
      • Single handedly attacking a large group of enemies can be considered NVFL.
      • Not declaring your intentions to start a war or take over a location, will be classified as NVFL, bad RP and the breaking of the rules.
      • Changing your character mid game will not be tolerated, find a way to creatively change your back story as you play. eg. your complete squad/family was horribly murdered; don’t then instantly become a bandit and go killing everything in sight! eg. creatively put your character into a grieving period and become a hermit, who then becomes a psycho who runs through the streets screaming/making weird noises, brandishing a rusty screwdriver! (this change will take longer than 5min, make it apart of your character)

      What NOT to do

      • Don’t change your character because you’re bored or because your friends have just got online and want to play a different character, find a creative way to change your characters story.
      • Bad role play is generally any act performed within the game that goes against any reasonable and realistic expectations of your characters behaviour in a given situation.
      • We employ a zero tolerance policy towards those who KOS, or who knowingly make your character play a role that is offensive or abusive to people that can be taken out of game and cause issues in the community. eg. targeting someone for their gender, racial background or re-inventing a situation that you know has happened to them in real life that you know to be painful for them.

      Killing on sight aka KOS

Killing on sight or KOS is when you see someone and kill them before making contact or allowing them to make contact. Just because you can see them, does not mean they can see you! No matter what role play faction you choose to base your character on, there is no reason for KOS! If you are indeed wanting to kill another persons character, find a way to role play it!

Killing of another player must always be justified by the role play and good reason based on in game knowledge. All hostilities must be caused by role play interaction between players. You can take revenge for a hostile action taken against you as long as it does not conflict with the other rules like no KOS and NLR, but you can only do so once. We no longer restrict initiations or the way hostilities should start using the rules – we count on your creativity, role play and fair play to make sure all hostilities are done properly.

      • You have to make contact with the target before initiating a hostile action against it. Contact is made when the player has responded to or otherwise acknowledged your message.
      • You must explicitly state your intention to commit a hostile action or inform the victim of the consequences of non-compliance. You must also explicitly state each demand or order before you can harm the victim for non-compliance.
      • You can take revenge for a hostile action taken against you for 2 hours from the time hostile action was taken, as long as it does not conflict with the other rules.
Bandits and those who control the freedom of their victim(s) must do everything in their power to keep their victims alive and in relatively good health, unless they have good in character reason to execute their victim(s). The victim(s) may only be executed by the bandits if they do not comply or if they pose a direct threat to them. We do allow players to harm each other in a role-playing sense however, you must leave a compliant victim alive and in good enough condition that they would have a reasonable chance to survive after you leave them. Doing this may include:
      • Blood-bagging a victim after causing injury.
      • Providing sufficient food and drinks to allow the victim to survive while in your care and for a reasonable time after.
      • Leaving the victim without broken legs or with ready access to morphine.
      • Defending them from external threats (like zombies).

      Examples and extras

      • Always confirm and declare your targets, if you’re taking revenge and you’re uncertain about players identity it’s better to hold fire than to risk a KoS.

      What NOT to do

      • Do not kill the victim if he is complying or if you have no good in character reason to execute them (member of an enemy group for example).
      • Do not bait other players into situations where you can take revenge for their actions. This includes situations such as sending a single poorly equipped member of your group into a hostile situation in the hopes that another group will be hostile towards him, or leaving supplies in an obvious location where they can be easily stolen and you would be hostile towards the “thief”.
      • Do not carry yesterdays problems into today!
      • Do not bring in-game character problems on to teamspeak! eg. he/she just robbed/killed me, so now I can’t be their friend!

      New Life Rule

When you die you lose memories surrounding the event that led to your death – that means running back to your body after dying is forbidden. However, you keep the knowledge about your group, friends, enemies and other people that you’ve met before that event. If you die, you are not allowed to return to the area where you died before 15min has passed since your death.

      What NOT to do

      • Do not recover gear or otherwise disturb your body or the body of those involved in the situation leading to your death.
      • You may ask a survivor to collect any gear off of your body and to hold on to it for you, but if they happen to die or get robbed before you can meet up, they are not responsible for having to find you items to replace what was lost. Any survivors are within their rights to say no in regards to the collecting and holding of items for another person! It is DayZ after all, you can go and find new loot, especially if you decide that with your new life you are going to create a new back story.
      • Server restarts do not affect the NLR cooldown, you can not go back to the location where you died even if there is a server restart in between.
      • Do not take revenge for any hostile acts that happened before you died, including but not limited to the person and/or group that killed you. When your character dies, so does its past hostilities, you need to create a new back story or re-start your past story from the beginning (who knows, you may end up with a different ending this time around). The only time you may “hold on too” a past situation is if you have built up to it in your past story eg. if in your last story you had a son/daughter/brother/sister that you had worked into it (like writting letters or notes to them, talking about them) and they have heard about your demise and want to seek revenge for you, as long as it is proven that you are keeping with a past story and role played well, it will be within the rules and allowed.
      • Do not announce “I got killed by X from Y” or “Those guys killed me last time” to your friends if they were not online and in-game at the time of the death taking place. Your character does not remember the events leading up to his death, and therefore will not remember who killed him/her after the death has taken place. So waiting for your friends to come online to help you hunt the person/people down will conflict with your new life story and affect the story of your friends characters! You may share the story with your friends in order to have a laugh or just to share the entertaining way that you died, but DO NOT ASK THEM TO GO AND KILL FOR YOU!
      • At the time of your death, you may go and inform the hero’s or hitman of your demise, or get one of your friends to seek guidance or support in finding your killers, but you have 5min only to do this from the time you die! Then your character will have officially died and have not recollection of its death!

      Power- and meta- gaming

Powergaming refers to forcing an action, condition or belief upon another player’s character. You cannot tell another player anything about who his character is or what he does. Furthermore, you cannot force another player into a situation from which they cannot fight back.

Metagaming is a broad term generally used to define any strategy, action or method used in a game which transcends a prescribed ruleset, uses external factors to affect the game or goes beyond the supposed limits or environment set by the game. Metagaming is when a player receives information that they otherwise should not have received in any reasonable role-play way and then decide to act upon it. In most situations this involves improperly receiving revenge rights.

      Examples of powergaming
      • Telling other players they have been hurt or even killed without that actually happening in game.
      • Permanently killing someone elses character without their permission.

      Examples of metagaming

      • Using or giving any information about your killer or location of your body after you’ve died (you are given a 5min window to talk to hero’s or hitman, as long as it is on the grounds of roleplay)
      • Using information posted on the forums, acquired in TeamSpeak or any other similar way to your advantage.

      What NOT to do

      • You may not go into someone else channel while unconscious or after dying to discuss ongoing in-game operations, you may not go into the channel of another roleplay faction at any point! If you need to talk to someone from a different roleplay fraction, teamspeak text message them and request that they met you up in the neutral channel.
      • Discuss the circumstances revolving around a previous death or otherwise acknowledging your death after the 5min window has passed.
      • Use the knowledge of game mechanics to create unreasonable or unrealistic scenarios.

      Combat logging or ghosting

The Nomad Admin/Modz do not look kindly upon people who log out in order to avoid retribution for their actions or as a method to avoid imminent player interaction, this is classified as combat logging. Thus, the name of the rule may be misleading, as no actual combat is necessary to combat log.

You cannot log out when another player wishes to communicate with you. If you are already in the presence of others and need to log out it is generally good form to inform them that you are going to have to leave soon/now to ensure that you are not impacting their RP by doing so, this does not mean you say ‘I’m off now, bye’, you remain in character and come up with a creative way that your character would have to leave or say good bye.

Then you are to log out of the game and then remove yourself from teamspeak or the DayZ channels, eg move yourself to AFK.

Break line of sight with those you committed a hostile act against and wait a minimum of 15 minutes from the time you broke line of sight before logging out.

Switching between connected servers (aka ghosting) to gain any kind of advantage is strictly forbidden.

      Examples and extras

If for any reason the player cannot take these steps to log out, and logging out would cause a possible combat log report, it is suggested that you go AFK to avoid depriving your pursuer (if any) of their right to seek revenge for a reasonable time. However, do so with caution: being AFK presents its own dangers.

      What NOT to do

      • Abuse multiple servers to gather loot.
      • Use multiple servers to position yourself unfairly for an attack on a person or camp.
      • Log into or near an ongoing firefight or hostile situation and use this advantage to interfere in the conflict.

      Groups and group conflicts

Squads and clans are an essential part of game play here at Nomad, we encourage our community to create their own squads or to bring their clan to join in on the fun. If your squad or clan meets our story line and agrees to actively roleplay, follow our rules and join in on creating a fun atmosphere, we are happy to give your squad or clan its own private channel in the DayZ section of the teamspeak.

If you are wanting to create or make your squad/clan apart of the NUG roleplay, please click on the “DayZ RPG Application Forms” drop down bar at the top of the website and select the category that best suits your squad/clan.

      Approved Groups

      • Hostile actions/revenge rights can be transferred between all group members and those who are directly involved in the situation.
      • Can allocate an item of clothing or colour to help identify their squad or clan (it will be up to you an your members to find these items)
      • Can create a base and attack other settlements. (As long as they declare first)

If your squad or clan are in a situation where you come across another player/s, whether they are in a clan/squad or not, you are to interact with them, roleplay the situation, just because you are a clan/squad does not give you the rights to KOS! Your clan/squad is to decide what roleplay faction it is going to follow and then take that direction for all initiations with other players. If your squad/clan finds itself in a hostile situation or feels the need to initiate a hostile situation, it is to do so under the roleplay rules.

Allied groups and hired help can be called in as reinforcements, but they must initiate hostilities in the normal way before they can use force. It works the other way as well: the defending group only has revenge rights on the original attackers, anyone else – like their allies – must follow the standard hostile initiation procedures. If your squad/clan are the ones initiating the hostile situation, you must make sure you declare it at all times! (read the Squad/Clan rules before applying)

      What NOT to do

      • Do not log in just to join a firefight. If hostilities occur, it’s up to the initiating parties to work things out.
      • While hostilities between groups allow each member of the group to share revenge rights, don’t KoS members of the group that were freshly spawned after dying in the battle: they are on a new life.
